How to scan and activate a keycard in the Alto.Ski app (you or your family)

You can add and activate a keycard in seconds using your phone’s NFC (contactless technology). If NFC isn’t available, you can also scan a QR code (Alto.Ski cards) or enter the 16-digit number manually.

What you need before you start

• The Alto.Ski app installed

• A keycard (Alto.Ski card or another compatible ski keycard)

• A phone with NFC enabled (recommended)

• iPhone: NFC works automatically (iPhone 7 and later)

• Android: enable NFC in Settings

• A credit or debit card added in the app to activate Pay-as-you-go: Visa, Mastercard or American Express (AmEx)

✅ You can also use any SKIDATA or Axess keycard you’ve used previously (if it’s compatible and in good condition).

Step 1: Register your payment card (required)

To activate a keycard for Pay-as-you-go, you must register a payment card in the app:

1. Open the app and go to Account / Payment details (or the payment step during registration)

2. Add your Visa / Mastercard / AmEx card

3. Complete any bank verification (e.g., 3D Secure) if prompted

Step 2 (recommended): Scan your keycard with NFC

1. Open the Alto.Ski app

2. Go to Skipass (from the menu) "Add an existing card"

3. Tap Read NFC

4. Hold the keycard close to the upper part of your phone for 2–3 seconds

• Keep the phone still until the scan completes

✅ The keycard number will appear in the app once it’s read correctly.

Alternative ways to add a keycard

Option A: Scan the QR code (Alto.Ski cards only)

1. Open Skipass - "Add an existing card"

2. Choose Scan QR code

3. Point your camera at the QR code on the card

4. Confirm when the keycard number appears

Option B: Enter the keycard number manually

1. Open Skipass - "Add an existing card"

2. Choose Enter card number (or similar option)

3. Type the 16-digit number printed on the keycard

4. Confirm to add the card

Step 3: Add the skier details

After the keycard number appears (via NFC/QR/manual entry), enter:

• Name

• Date of birth

• Photo (optional — you can add it later)

The keycard status will appear "Active" and you're ready to hit the slopes.

Activating keycards for family members

You have two easy options:

Option A — Manage everyone from one account (simplest)

Repeat the steps above for each keycard, one by one, using the same Alto.Ski account.

Option B — Each person uses their own account

Each family member downloads the app, creates an account, adds their payment card, and links their own keycard via Skipass.

Important: Pre-authorisation, funds, and freezing unused cards (Pay-as-you-go)

To make Pay-as-you-go work smoothly, please note:

• Your bank will place a temporary pre-authorisation (hold) up to the value of the daily ticket for each active card.

• Please make sure you have enough funds available on your payment card to cover the pre-authorisation for all active keycards.

• At the end of the day, you will be charged only for the time you ski (and the ticket type used). Any difference between the hold and the final charge will be released back to your account (timing depends on your bank).

✅ To keep the pre-authorisation amount low, please freeze any keycards you’re not using.

Before you go to the slopes

• Make sure each keycard status shows “Active” if you plan to ski with it.

• If the status doesn’t update immediately, refresh by pulling down (swipe down to refresh).

Tips if scanning doesn’t work

• Remove your phone case and try again

• Hold phone and card still for 2–3 seconds

• On Android, confirm NFC is switched on

• Don’t stack multiple cards together — scan one at a time

• If a card is old/damaged, try another (especially with previously used SKIDATA/Axess cards)
