Here’s a general guest manual any Montgenèvre hotel partner can use (you can tweak small bits if needed).
Welcome to Montgenèvre 🏔️
With Alto.Ski, you can buy your lift passes in advance and go straight to the slopes, without queuing at the ticket office.
1. What is Alto.Ski?
Alto.Ski is a free app (iOS & Android) that lets you:
Buy Montgenèvre lift passes in advance
Load them onto a ski card (Alto.Ski card or any compatible RFID card)
Go directly to the lifts
Access useful resort information in one place
In Montgenèvre, Alto.Ski works with payment in advance (prepaid passes) – not pay-as-you-go.
2. What you need
To use Alto.Ski in Montgenèvre you’ll need:
A smartphone with the Alto.Ski app
A ski card:
an Alto.Ski card (available in participating partner hotels), or
a compatible RFID ski card (for example, a Montgenèvre / Skidata / Axess card from a previous ski trip)
A bank card (debit or credit) to pay for your passes in the app
The Alto.Ski app is free and there is no subscription.
3. Step 1 – Get or re-use a ski card
Option A – Alto.Ski card from your hotel (where available)
Ask at reception if Alto.Ski cards are available.
Take one card per skier.
Each card should stay with the skier who will use it.
Option B – Re-use an existing RFID card
If you have a ski card from a previous season in a compatible Skidata/Axess resort, you can usually re-use it:
Open the Alto.Ski app
Go to “Add existing card”
Tap “Read NFC / Read via NFC”
Hold the card to the back of your phone
If the card shows status: ACTIVE, you can use it and load tickets on it
If the card does not show as active or cannot be read, please contact the Helpdesk in the Alto.Ski app.
4. Step 2 – Download the app and set Montgenèvre
Download “Alto.Ski” from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
Open the app and register (email + password).
From the resort list, select Montgenèvre and set it as your current resort.
If your hotel is an Alto.Ski partner, you can usually:
Go to the Hotels section
Find your hotel
Tap the bed icon to set it as your current hotel
Your Home screen will then show both the resort and (where supported) your hotel for quick access to information.
5. Step 3 – Add your ski card in the app
In the app, go to the Cards / Skipass section.
Choose “Add Alto.Ski card” or “Add existing card”.
If you have the physical card with you:
Tap “Read NFC / Read via NFC”
Hold the card to the back of your phone until the number appears
Check that the card status shows ACTIVE.
Only cards that show ACTIVE can be used to load lift passes.
6. Step 4 – Buy your Montgenèvre pass (payment in advance)
In the app, open the Montgenèvre resort page.
Tap “Buy tickets” / “Skipass”.
Choose:
Ticket type (for example, Day Pass, 6-day pass, etc.)
Start date and number of days
The card to load the ticket on (Alto.Ski card or compatible RFID card – must be ACTIVE)
Review the price and dates, then confirm.
Pay securely in the app with your payment card.
Once payment is confirmed:
Your pass is linked to your card for the selected dates
It is visible on the Home screen of the app
Typical passes available
Day Pass – with a J-2 discount when purchased at least 2 days before you ski
6–13 day consecutive passes – ideal for week-long or longer stays
(Always refer to the app for the current list of ticket types and prices.)
7. On the day – heading to the slopes
On your first ski day:
Open the Alto.Ski app and check:
Your card status is ACTIVE
Your ticket is visible on the Home screen
Go straight to the lifts and present the card at the gate.
You do not need to visit the ticket office if your card is active and has a valid ticket.
If the gates do not open, please check:
You are in Montgenèvre
The dates of your pass match the day you’re skiing
The card shown in the app is the same card you are using at the gate
If the issue persists, contact the Helpdesk in the Alto.Ski app or ask your hotel reception to assist.
8. Changes, cancellations and refunds
Because Montgenèvre uses prepaid passes, any changes or refunds are governed by the resort’s own terms and conditions. In general:
Once a ticket has been used at a lift gate, it is usually not refundable.
If you have made a mistake with names or dates, contact the Alto.Ski Helpdesk in the app as soon as possible. Alto.Ski will check with the resort what may be possible.
Alto.Ski cannot guarantee changes or refunds, but will always do their best to help within Montgenèvre’s rules.
9. Extra features (where available)
On the Montgenèvre page inside the Alto.Ski app, you may also find:
Live lifts and pistes status
Ski insurance options
Maps and useful links
Information about hotels, shops and services in the resort
These features are updated and expanded regularly.
10. Need help?
If you need assistance with Alto.Ski:
Use the Helpdesk in the Alto.Ski app to message support directly, or
Ask your hotel reception – many partner hotels are familiar with Alto.Ski and can guide you.
We hope Alto.Ski makes your ski holiday in Montgenèvre smoother and more enjoyable.
Have a fantastic time on the slopes! 🎿
